It was announced that Selvaraghavan-Suriya's NGK would be a Diwali release. However, the producers of the film, Dream Warriors Pictures, took to social media to announce that the project will be released after Diwali. The makers in a statement said, "We are working hard to achieve the best and deliver the same to you at the earliest." They thanked the audience for their constant support and assured they will announce the updated release date soon. 

Suriya plays Nandha Gopalan Kumaran in this film that also stars Rakul Preet Singh, Sai Pallavi and Ramkumar Ganesan in important roles. 

With NGK not releasing on Diwali, the AR Murugadoss-Vijay project Sarkar will likely get a solo release unless another film decides to enter the race.
