Reports say that Nievtha Pethuraj, who is busy shooting for Vijay Antony's Thimiru Pudichavan and Pon Manickavel, alongside Prabhudheva, will play the female lead in Prabhu Solomon's Kumki 2. However, there is no official confirmation of this.

Six years after Kumki's release Prabhu Solomon is working on the second instalment, which is not a direct sequel to the first film. The shooting is progressing at a brisk pace and the crew recently shot in Siva Samuthiram falls near Mysore. Incidentally, this is the second film to be shot at the location, after MGR's Idhayakani (1975). 

With debutant Madhiazhagan playing the hero, the film also features Hareesh Paredi and Mynaa-fame Susan in important roles. Kumki 2 has music by Niwas K Prasanna and cinematography by Sukumar.
