CE Features

Actor Marc Maron, best known for his starring role in the Netflix series Glow, is in talks to join the cast of Warner Bros' The Joker. While details are sketchy, the film is expected to feature Joaquin Phoenix as the titular character and explore the origin story of one of the most iconic DC supervillains and the arch-nemesis of Batman.

Maron will add to a supporting cast that already includes Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz and Frances Conroy. The origin story, reportedly based on the graphic novel, The Killing Joke, will be directed by Todd Phillips who has co-written the script with Scott Silver. It is described by the studio as an 'exploration of a man disregarded by society that is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale'.

While the shooting is set to begin in September in New York, the film is scheduled for release on October 4, 2019.
