I know what an actor wants while working on a film: Karen Gillan

The actor-turned-director says that she understands the needs of an actor as she has worked with multiple directors

Actor Karen Gillan says her acting career set her up to be a good director as she knows what actors are after on set. She feels that she can offer a "safe" environment for actors, as she knows that is what an actor seeks while shooting for a film.

"I've just worked with so many directors as an actor, so I know exactly what I want from a director. And I was able to give that to the actors. They want an environment that is safe so that they can offer up their ideas and take risks artistically. And not be scared that they are going to be laughed at or shut down," says Karen Gillan.

The actor, who directed the comedy drama The Party's Just Beginning, considers James Gunn her directorial inspiration as he gives actors "wings of freedom on the sets."

As an actor, Karen Gillan was recently seen in Avengers: Infinity War, reprising her role as Nebula.
