Kannada film on veterern journalist’s murder

Express Features

Director AMR Ramesh’s penchant for helming crime based films has him considering yet another intersting subject--Gauri Lankesh’s murder case. Ramesh, who has plans to direct a biopic on IPS officer D Roopa, has simultaneously started his research on Gauri’s case and will only take the script forward once the police verdict is out.

Apparently, this film on Gauri, which is in the offing, is close to the director’s heart, for he has known the veteran journalist personally. “When I used to work with director Indrajit Lankesh on his film, Monalisa, I would meet Gauri almost everyday as her office was just above Indrajit’s office. She always appreciated my body of work. It was shocking to see her lie in a pool of blood on that fateful day and I will never accept her killing,” he says.

Along with Gauri’s case, Ramesh will also throw light on Kalburgi Kalburgi, Pansare, and Dabholkar murders. His main focus will be on who killed Gauri and it will be done with clarity, he says. “I don’t want to pass any kind of judgement and will patiently wait for the investigation to be over.”

Ask Ramesh, what made him choose this murder, and he replies, “I will make a film only if I can relate to the subject, and this is an important topic for me as Gauri was my friend.”
