2.0 postponed again?

Express Features

After a stellar audio launch in Dubai, the hype for the Rajinikanth-starrer 2.0 is at an all-time high. Made with a budget of Rs 350 crore, the film, which was originally supposed to be out this month for Diwali, was postponed to January 25, 2018. But due to some delays in the VFX work, it's said that the film might not be able to stick to deadlines and the release date could be pushed back once again.

Considering the huge investment, the film needs to have a solo release in order to get the maximum number of screens. But yesterday, it was confirmed that Akshay Kumar, who is debuting in Tamil cinema with 2.0, will have his film, Padman, releasing on January 26. Directed by R Balki of Shamitabh fame, Padman is inspired by the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, who invented a low-cost sanitary pad-making machine. Trade analysts are saying that this release is because of 2.0 pulling out of the Republic Day race.

Apparently, 11 VFX studios are working together on 2.0 which is expected to be a visual extravaganza. With a lot of work still remaining in the post-production stage, official confirmation is yet to come on whether the film will stick to its release date or if it'll be postponed for a summer 2018 release. Bankrolled by Lyca Productions, 2.0 is directed by Shankar and also stars Amy Jackson and Sudhanshu Pandey.
