Vaiko to produce a film on Velu Nachiyar

Express Features

Renowned politician Vaiko, has decided to enter the film industry by producing his first film, based on the freedom fighter Velu Nachiyar. Speaking about how the idea came to be conceived, Vaiko says it was the narration of Sriram Sharma, the son of Venugopal Sharma (who painted the portrait of Thiruvalluvar that has come to be associated with the poet today), that did the trick.

The film, to be produced by Kannagi films, will be about the exploits of the first queen to fight the British. Tamil cinema has earlier made a movie on the Maruthu brothers (Sivagangai Seemai) who succeeded Velu Nachiyar to the throne.
