Sanjay Dutt and Farhan Akhtar in Jigarthanda remake

Express Features

Karthik Subbaraj's Jigarthanda, which released in 2014, became a big hit and earned Bobby Simha a National Award. Interestingly, Superstar Rajinikanth later expressed dissapointment at never getting to play a character like Assault Sethu (Bobby Simha's character).

Now, it's learnt that the film, which blends the gangster drama genre with black comedy, will be remade in Hindi by director Nishikanth Kamath under Ajay Devgn's production banner. Farhan Akhtar is all set to reprise Siddharth's role of a struggling film-maker and Sanjay Dutt will play the dreaded gangster. While the original was based in Madurai, the adaptation will be set in Maharashtra.

Reportedly, the shooting for the remake will commence in the first week of December. The casting for the film is presently underway.
