Express Features

With the High Court judgement in favour of the Mersal team, allowing them to retain the name, and the film getting a U/A certificate, the Vijay-starrer is all set to hit the screens this Diwali on October 18. As expected, the film's doing good pre-release business, banking on Vijay and director Atlee's previous super-hit Theri.

Unconfirmed reports state that the film's overseas rights have been sold for more than Rs 25 crore, which is a new high for Vijay. It is also the highest ever amount made for a non-Rajini film. The digital prints of the film made for the overseas market have already been sent.

Meanwhile, the film is also getting a massive opening in Kerala where it will release in more than 250 screens. Sources reveal that distributors are expecting Mersal to break Baahubali's record in the state.

With the promos which released on Sunday taking the social media by storm, the makers are leaving no stones unturned for promoting the film. The film is also to be screened at the iconic Le Grand Rex movie hall in Paris, France, making it the third Tamil film to be played there after Kabali and Baahubali 2. The 167-minute long film with AR Rahman's music has an ensemble cast, including Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha, Nithya Menen, SJ Suryah and Vadivelu.
