Amma Kanakku fame Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari's next is on kabaddi

Express Features

Bollywood director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, who directed this year's Bareilly Ki Barfi and 2016's Nil Battey Sannata, which she remade in Tamil as Amma Kanakku, will next helm a film based on kabaddi. Produced by Fox Star Studios, the film is currently in the scripting stage, with Ashwiny developing the story along with the production house's creative team.

"My quest for telling stories from the heart found a partner in the like-minded Rucha and her team from Fox Star Studios. I am totally thrilled to direct another story which will be close to my heart," said a statement from the filmmaker.

Bollywood has welcomed sports films in recent times, and films such as Dangal and Sultan have done well at the box office. Tamil cinema, too, isn't new to films based on kabaddi--Kudumba Thalaivan, Ghilli and Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu have all been centred on the contact team sport.
