The Jayam Ravi-starrer Vanamagan, which was scheduled for release on May 19, will now hit the screens on June 23 instead. In an official statement, the director of the film, Vijay, says that although the work on the film was over and it was ready for the release, the date has now been pushed back due to the Tamil film industry strike that’s scheduled to start from May 30.

The Tamil Film Producer’s Council President, Vishal, who has called for the strike, is planning a shutdown of all activities including the releases of films and shooting, from that day. This would only give the film a window of 11 days of continuous theatrical run, Vijay says they were left with no other option but to postpone the release date of the film.

In a press release, the director says, “In the larger interest of the Tamil film industry, we are postponing the release.We are hopeful that the proposed strike will get the attention of the Governments involved and the issues faced by the industry are addressed on war footing, so that the industry comes out of its problems.”  

The venture bankrolled by Think Big Studios has music by Harris Jayaraj and Tirru as the cinematographer.
