Oscar winning director Quentin Tarantino's next film will explore the Manson Family's Tate murders which occurred on August 8, 1969. The filmmaker has already written the script and is soon planning to start direction.

The tragedy occurred when Charles Manson -- an unemployed convict and failed musician -- ordered his followers, known as the Manson Family, to attack guests at a house in Los Angeles' Benedict Canyon. The followers brutally murdered everyone at home, including actress Sharon Tate, who was eight months pregnant at the time.

The focus of the film is unclear at this time. It's unknown whether the film will be a historical retelling of the events that occurred, or if the crime will be used as a backdrop for separate, intertwining stories. Tarantino is expected to get in A-list actors for the project
