Editor Beena Paul, a member of Women in Cinema Collective (an all-women association in Malayalam cinema), has termed the arrest of actor Dileep "shocking." She said it was saddening to know that "a person from within the industry had a role in the crime", referring to the incident in which a popular actress was assaulted in a moving car.

Women in Cinema Collective was formed in the aftermath of this incident. The association has since met Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan seeking his intervention to address issues plaguing women in the industry. The association has also strongly come out against attempts to malign the victim.

"We are extremely pained that a person from the industry was involved in the incident. But at the same time, we believe justice has to be served at any cost. The rest is for the court to decide. We aren't speculating anything and we have total trust in the court and the police," Beena added.

Actress Sajitha Madathil, a WCC member, said, "Though the media had always speculated about the actor's involvement, we wanted it to be untrue because it reflected the moral degradation of the  industry. But it is very important that the victim, who showed the courage to come out and complain against the treatment meted out to her, gets justice. It is too early to reach a conclusion as the case will now move to the court. We stand by her and congratulate the Kerala Police which ensured that no undue influence sabotaged the investigation."
