One of the most anticipated projects of the year, Mahanati, will have Dulquer Salmaan playing yesteryear actor Gemini Ganeshan. And, for the role Dulquer has undergone a makeover and was recently seen sporting a thin moustache, thereby sharing a striking resemblance to the late actor.

Mahanati, a Tamil-Telugu bilingual, is a biopic on legendary actress Savitri.  The movie will also mark Dulquer's debut in Telugu cinema. His part in the film will be significant as Gemini Ganesan was married to Savitri.

Directed by Nag Ashwin, the film will have Keerthy Suresh playing Savitri. The story will be told from the perspective of Samantha’s character, a journalist.

The buzz was that the makers plan to erect massive sets on a scale that hasn’t been seen before in Indian cinema. The period drama set in 80s will be jointly produced by Vyjayanthi Movies and Swapna Cinemas. Mickey J Meyer will be working on the background score and music.
