Padmavati to hit the theatres in January 2018?

Express Features

The highly anticipated epic period drama, Padmavati, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali has been mired in controversies since the start of its production. The film starring Deepika Padukone in the titular role was initially supposed to make it to screens last week on December 1. However, after protests and sporadic violent incidents, the makers decided to postpone the film until next year.

As per reports now, the makers are apparently waiting for the Gujarat elections (December 9 – 18, 2017) to come to an end. In addition, a response from the Central Board of Film Certification is also being awaited. It is said once the elections in Gujarat are over and a clearance certificate is issued by the CBFC, the film will hit screens, likely in January.

The film also stars Shahid Kapoor as the Rajput warrior Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji, the antagonist.
