Amala Paul walks out of Kayamkulam Kochunni; replaced by Priya Anand

Express Features

Amala Paul was announced to be part of filmmaker Rosshan Andrrews' upcoming Malayalam period drama, Kayamkulam Kochunni starring Nivin Pauly in the titular role. The latest update is that the actor has opted out of the project, citing date issues, and Priya Anand has been roped in as her replacement. Priya made her Malayalam debut in Ezra opposite Prithviraj earlier this year.

When rumours began to do the rounds that she was replaced, Amala took to Twitter to issue a clarification stating that leaving Kayamkulam Kochunni was her own decision.

"I wasn't replaced, I opted out because of date issues. I'm not joblessly cooking up stuffs," she said.

The film is based on the life of the legendary thief Kayamkulam Kochunni, a famed highwayman (a Robin Hood-esque individual) based in Kayamkulam, Kerala in the early 19th century. Made on a huge budget, the project has gone on the floors in Kerala and Sri Lanka. It is scripted by the duo Bobby-Sanjay, who spent over two years researching for the project.

Meanwhile, with her latest film Thiruttu Payale 2 opening to positive reviews, Amala Paul will next be seen in Bhaskar Oru Rascal with Arvind Swami followed by Raatchasan with Vishnu Vishal.
