Akshay Kumar’s Toilet: Ek Prem Katha will release in some otherwise unexplored foreign countries. Barring the three Khans, very few actors get huge releases overseas. However, the makers of Toilet.. have decided to release the film in some non conventional countries, in addition to the usual North America, UK and UAE markets. They will also be tapping into relatively newer markets like Chile in South America, and also Greece, Czech Republic, Hungary, Malta, Croatia, Estonia, and Latvia in Europe, in a first for a Bollywood film. The film is releasing in a total of 22 countries in Europe alone. In addition to this, countries such as Japan and Malta are holding multiple screenings of the film as well.

The film also stars Bhumi Padnekar and is directed by Shree Narayan Singh. Akshay says that the film is not preachy even though it talks about open defecation. He insists that it is a love story set against the backdrop of the sanitation issue, which also conveys a message. The film will release in approximately 3000 screens in India.
