Vir Das: I once joked about Abdul Kalam sir and he apparently liked it

Stand-up comedian and actor Vir Das, in the latest edition of Time Pass, a series of webinars conducted by The New Indian Express group, shared about his new special Inside Out with senior journalist Kaveree Bamzai and TNIE’s Entertainment Editor Sudhir Srinivasan.

Vir Das has been performing to audiences across the world on Zoom and he has now stitched up all those videos together as a comedy special. As he opened up about this unique experience, Vir Das reminisced an instance where a joke about former president APJ Abdul Kalaam landed him in trouble. While Vir was performing in Delhi, someone called cops on him for making fun of the former president. Vir was later interrogated by the police and was let go.

However, Kalaam seems to have heard the joke himself and also liked it. "Many months later, I performed at a conference where he was the keynote speaker. I performed towards the end and Kalaam sir stayed for my routine and laughed all through it. He had a good sense of humour."
