Amita Ranganath, the latest entrant into the Kannada film industry, says she is glad to have entered tinsel town at the right time.

“Gone are the days when heroines are offered run-of-the-mill storylines and roles. New directors are coming out with fresh concepts and stories that are character-driven,” she says.

Using her two upcoming films - Days of Borapura and Prayanikara Gamanake - as examples she says, “While my first film, directed Aditya Kunigal, is a comedy set in a remote village, the latter, while will be out in May, is a thriller. Prayanikara Gamanake, directed by Manohar, takes place on a bus, and traces the journey of the seven lead characters. Both the films are experimental, with out-of-the-box plots,” she says.

Before entering the Kannada industry, Amita made her debut in Telugu and Tamil. Her debut film was Chandamama Kathalu alongside Naga Shourya, which won a National Award, and it was followed by her first Tamil film opposite director P Vasu’s son, Shakthi.
