Revisiting Dil Dhadakne Do: A look back at Zoya Akhtar’s dysfunctional comedy

Zoya conceived the film as a family drama centere on a brother-sister relationship. She wanted to depict a more realistic sibling relationship
The film’s original cast featured Ranbir Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Katrina Kaif and Hritik Roshan.
After Ranbir left, Kareena dropped out of the project. They were replaced by Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra.
Madhuri Dixit, Tabu and Raveena Tandon were considered to play Neelam Mehra. The role finally went to Shefali Shah.
The film unfolds on a cruise ship to celebrate the 30th wedding anniversary of the Mehras. Anil Kapoor, who plays Kamal Mehra, missed his real 30th anniversary for the film.
Akhtar later co-wrote the screenplay with her friend and longtime collaborator Reema Kagti.
Aamir Khan voiced the dog – Pluto Mehra – the film’s narrator.
Anil Kapoor is Ranveer Singh's uncle in real life.
