Ghajini was initially supposed to be made with Thala Ajith and Asin as Mirattal, with NIC arts bankrolling the film, and Yuvan Shankar Raja supposed to score music.

The film even went on floors for a few days. Shriya Saran and Prakashraj who were supposed to be a part of the film, ultimately got replaced by Nayanthara and Pradeep Rawat.
