7 Years of Selvaraghavan 's Irandaam Ulagam: A nostalgic look-back with interesting trivia and memorable snapshots from the ambitious fantasy-drama

After deciding to shelve another project titled Idhu Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam featuring Dhanush and Andrea, Selvaraghavan began shooting with the same cast in June 2010, for a film titled Maravan.

Filming was held at Jeppiaar Engineering College in Chennai.

The title later was changed to Irandaam Ulagam and in a turn of events, Yuvan Shankar Raja replaced Prakash Kumar as music composer.

However, in another sensational turn, GV Prakash Kumar was assigned again as composer after Yuvan Shankar Raja moved out of the project.

The film ran into trouble yet again after lead actress Andrea Jeremiah pulled out of the film.

Meanwhile, Harris Jayaraj was confirmed to be a part of the project as the music director, again replacing GV Prakash.

Sivakarthikeyan also briefly shot for the film in a supporting role, but was replaced by Venkatesh Harinathan after having creative differences with Selvaraghavan.

The film with the new cast of Arya and Anushka Shetty went on floors in December 2011, in Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad.

Few scenes were filmed inside the BITS-Pilani, Goa Campus.

The scenes that happen in the other planet were shot in Georgia, Rio de Janeiro and the forests of Brazil.

Arya worked out for 3 months to build a huge frame and six-pack abs to fit the muscular lead role.

The team returned from Georgia after almost two months of continuous shoot under extreme conditions.

A few more scenes were also shot at the holy town of Srisailam situated in Nallamala Hills of Kurnool district.

The post-production and the computer generated imagery works for the film happened for six months.

The film was made at a budget of 55 crores.

Irandaam Ulagam marks Harris Jayaraj's first collaboration with director Selvaraghavan.

The film's background score and an additional three songs were completed by Anirudh after Harris left the project due to other commitments.

The film's cinematography was handled by Ramji.

The Telugu version of the film, titled Varna, was released simultaneously.

Selvaraghavan was credited as Sri Raghava in Telugu.

A 70-feet cut-out of Anushka was erected at Shilpa Kala Vedika in Madhapur on the eve of the film's audio launch

The film was initially announced to release in Diwali 2013, but was later postponed to 22 November.

The censor board members were reportedly in awe after watching the final product of the film which is directed by Selvaraghavan

The film released in 1200+ screens which was the biggest release in Arya's career.
