15 Years of Sivaji: Ten nostalgic frames of Rajinikanth, and the stories behind them

Sivaji, directed by Shankar and featuring a never-seen-before Rajini, got a release on June 15, 2007. We give you ten dashing frames from the film and the stories behind their creation.

The man, who was known for his style, looked stylish than never-before. 'Shtyle' was filmed at the Frank Gehry-designed Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, as well as the City of Arts and Sciences.
Athiradikaran portrayed a version of Rajinikanth that made even his anti-gravity stunts look convincing. The sets for the song in Binny Mills were made bearing resemblance to the city of Venice.
'Panninga daan koottamaa varum. Singam single a daan varum,' he roared. The line, which was delivered in Benny Mills in the presence of 35 top stuntmen, became iconic for years to come.
Rajini as a Babylonian king with a mane! Now, that's something TN won't say no to. 'Vaaji Vaaji' was shot at Ramoji Film City in an artificial four-storey palace, built to accommodate 180 dancers.
Rajini trying his hand at comedy! A few lines worked; a few more fell flat. But this scene, that was picturised in a house in the outskirts of Delhi, was a laugh riot.
An agile Rajini in rich, traditional attire! The ambitious 'Balleilakka' was shot in Wai, a hill station near Pune with 500 dancers, and a 50-member team of Puli Kali artists from Thrissur.
'Adi Billa Ranga Baasha daan.. Ivan pistol paesum baeshaa daan..' A deadly combo of Vaali at his 'popculture-referencing' best and Rajini at his charismatic best!
'Sivaji-yum naan daan. MGR-am naan daan,' he boomed. Two generations cheered him along. All the scenes involving a tonsured Rajini were filmed at the Magarpatta city SEZ tower, Pune.
'Bajji saapdu ma,' he chuckled. The film's most massy scene had to happen in a humble tea-shop bench.And, vintage Rajinikanth was back.
