20 seemingly-promising Tamil films that have been on the back burner for quite some time now

With the film industry going through a protracted rough patch, the actors, film-makers, and producers are locked in a sort of a blame game, for the increasing number of delayed films.

Moodar Koodam director Naveen's second film, the fantasy adventure, Alaudhinin Arputha Camera, was slated for release in April 2019, but soon, ran into financial issues.

Though Dhruva Natchathiram, Gautham Menon's dream project starring Vikram went on floors in Jan 2017, the shoot was stalled due to various financial reasons. The final schedule is yet to be completed.

Trisha's action-adventure, Garjanai, loosely based on Anushka Sharma's NH 10, has been in production for nearly two years now. The completed film is yet to be submitted to the censors.

Karthick Naren's Naragasooran ran into financial trouble, with Karthick accusing the producer GVM of taking things for granted. With Gautham no longer involved, the film's release hangs in the balance

Vedhalam Sollum Kadhai, a contemporary take on the Vikram-Vedhalam mythology, directed by Rathindran Prasad, went on floors in 2016. This was to be Abhay Deol's Tamil debut.

Sundar C had reportedly wrapped up the shoot of his comedy, Madha Gaja Raja, starring Vishal, Anjali and Varalakshmi, in late 2012. But, the film remains unreleased to-date, for unknown reasons.

Selvaraghavan's Nenjam Marappadhillai, finished production in late 2016. But the film, said to be co-produced by GVM (who later absolved himself from the project) is yet to see the light of the day.

Venkat Prabhu's multistarrer, Party, has been under production for quite some time now. The film was earlier scheduled for an April 2019 release, but ultimately got postponed.

Despite being completed, Seenu Ramasamy's Idam Porul Yaeval, starring Vijay Sethupathi, has remained unreleased, as a result of Thirupathi Brothers' financial difficulties.

CS Amudhan's controversial follow-up to Tamizh Padam, Rendavadhu Padam, was completed in 2012. The film has however remained unreleased because of the producer's financial problems.

Kamal Haasan's Sabaash Naidu, a spin-off ft. the Balram Naidu character from Dasavaratham, started production, and was stalled mid-way because of Kamal Haasan's political commitments.

Balaji Tharaneetharan’s Oru Pakka Kathai, starring Kalidas Jayaram and Megha Akash went on floors in 2014, but the movie didn't get a theatrical release. It has since been acquired by Zee 5.

The shooting of Sadhuranga Vettai 2, starring Arvind Swami and Trisha, was completed in June 2017. But the film remains in the cans, probably because... you guessed it right... financial issues.

Anand Balki's Server Sundaram, starring Santhanam in the lead, ended production in 2016, but the film has failed to hit the theatres.

Shaitaan Ka Bachcha, starring Siddharth and Raashi Kanna, was wrapped up in mid-2017, and the film apparently didn't find any takers.

The shoot of the heist comedy, Thittam Pottu Thirudura Kootam, starring Kayal Chandran and Parthiban, was wrapped up in 30 days in August 2016. There have no updates on the film since then.

Vasanth's festival favourite, Sivaranjiniyum Innum Sila Pengalum, was said slated for a 2019 summer release. But, the award-winning film is yet to get a theatrical release

The Selvaraghavan-Santhanam film, Mannavan Vanthanadi, has been in the cans for a long time now. Reports suggest that there are some legal issues which need to be sorted out.

Rekka director Rathina Siva's first film was Vaa Deal, starring Arun Vijay and Karthika Nair. The action-thriller remains unreleased even as Rathina Siva has moved on to his third film.

Dhanush's long-delayed film with Gautham Menon, Ennai Noki Paayum Thotta, has been in the making from March 2016. The film is now rumoured to have been completed, but the release date is still unsure.
