Akka, the much-delayed YRF Entertainment series starring Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte in the lead cast, finally has a release date. Billed as a revenge thriller, the series is written and directed by debutant Dharmaraj Shetty.
According to reports, Akka will begin streaming on October 30 on Netflix. The official synopsis reads, “Set in the 1980s matriarchal society of a fictional city of Pernuru, South India, women reign supreme and power has a new name - Akka! Akka is the tale of gangster queens whose matriarchal rule is challenged when an outsider brings an unseen threat, spiralling the all-powerful sisterhood into a chaos storm of violence and survival.”
The series also features Tanvi Azmi and Anshumaan Pushkar in the primary cast. Akka has been in the making for a long time. The show was announced nearly three years ago, in November 2023. The first look for the show was unveiled in February last year.
YRF Entertainment's previous series projects include The Railway Men (2023), starring R Madhavan, Kay Kay Menon, Divyenndu Sharma and Babil Khan in prominent roles, and Mandala Murders (2025), starring Vaani Kapoor alongside Vaibhav Raj Gupta (of Gullak fame), Surveen Chawla, and Jameel Khan.
Keerthy Suresh was recently seen in Karthik Subbaraj’s Dorothy. Meanwhile, Radhika Apte too had a release recently with Lust Stories 3. This is the first time the two acclaimed actors will be seen sharing screen together.
Akka also marks Keerthy's second big Hindi project after the 2024 film Baby John (2024), which starred Varun Dhawan in the lead.
