Dorothy has maintained a steady presence at the box office as it enters its first weekday, with the film recording a crore-plus gross on Monday. After gradually building its collections through the opening weekend, the Karthik Subbaraj directorial saw the expected dip on its first Monday while continuing its run across theatres.
Dorothy has now grossed Rs 5.15 crore worldwide in four days, with the entire collection coming from India, as the film has not recorded any overseas gross so far. Its India net collection stands at Rs 4.40 crore. On Day 4, the film grossed Rs 1 crore and collected Rs 85 lakh net across 770 shows, recording an overall occupancy of 33%.
Tamil Nadu continues to remain the film's primary market, contributing Rs 85 lakh to Monday's gross. Karnataka and Kerala each contributed Rs 7 lakh, while the rest of India added Rs 1 lakh. With this, Dorothy's Tamil Nadu gross has reached Rs 4.22 crore in four days.
The film had recorded its best single-day performance on Sunday, grossing Rs 1.65 crore at an occupancy of 46%. Monday's Rs 1 crore gross represents a drop from the weekend high, but takes the film's four-day India gross to Rs 5.15 crore.
In comparison, Meesaya Murukku 2 continued to operate at a higher level on its first Monday, with reports putting its Day 4 India net at around Rs 2.5 crore. Its four-day India net had crossed Rs 16 crore. The Paradise, which opened a day earlier and on a significantly larger scale, had already crossed Rs 90 crore in India net by its fourth day, according to reports, highlighting the considerably different scale of the three films' theatrical runs.
There has been a mixed response to the film from general audiences, but it has received universal critical acclaim. Its story follows two friends, played by Sananth and Rishikanth, who have grown up with toxic masculinity, casteism, and violence around them. However, the friends' belief system and lives change as a compassionate Dorothy (Keerthy Suresh) challenges the societal prejudice surrounding them.
Dorothy has music by Ilaiyaraaja, who makes his first collaboration with director Karthik Subbaraj for a film. It also marks Ilaiyaraaja's 1,540th film as a music director. The film is produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Guneet Monga Kapoor, and Achin Jain. Its technical team also includes cinematographer S Thirunavukkarasu, editor Ganesh Siva, and choreographer Sherif M.
