On Friday, Prime Video announced the premiere date for the second season of Dupahiya. Featuring Gajraj Rao, Renuka Shahane, Sparsh Shrivastava, Bhuvan Arora, and Shivani Raghuvanshi in lead cast, Dupahiya Season 2 premieres on October 1.
Directed by Sonam Nair, Dupahiya is set in the quirky and no longer crime-free fictional village of Dhadakpur, and promises to offer yet again a unique blend of innocence, madness, and small-town charm, with a fresh set of challenges that bring on bigger chaos and plenty of laughs. The supporting cast also includes Dinesh Lal Yadav (Nirahua) and Yashpal Sharma who was also part of season 1.
The series is created and produced by Salona Bains Joshi and Shubh Shivdasani under the banner of Bombay Film Cartel, and created and written by Avinash Dwivedi and Chirag Garg.
In a joint statement, Salona and Shubh shared, “Dupahiya has always been a story close to our hearts. While the narrative is set in rural India, at its core, it is a story about big dreams colliding with everyday chaos- and finding the unexpected humor along the way. This season is as much about the humor as it is about the heartwarming, emotional moments. The response to the first season meant a lot to us, and we believe season two will be equally well received by viewers when it premieres on Prime Video.”
Nikhil Madhok, Director and Head of Originals (SVOD), Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios India, said, "Salona and Shubh's creative vision, along with Avinash and Chirag's signature writing, have been the driving force behind this series. With our much-loved characters returning for another season, we're looking forward to welcoming our viewers back to Dhadakpur with its simple charm, innocence, and light-hearted spirit."
Season 1 of Dupahiya premiered in March last year. In our review for the series, we noted, “Dupahiya is not interested in being a social satire. It, unfortunately, also doesn’t have the writing prowess to work as an engaging tapestry of a unique village. There is some wit here, but no energy.”
