Magudam on OTT: When and where to catch Vishal's directorial debut

Also starring Dushara Vijayan and Anjali in lead roles, Magudam features Vishal in three roles

Vishal's Magudam, which marks his directorial debut and also stars him in the lead role, is now all set for an OTT premiere. The film, which hit theatres alongside Vishwanath and Sons on August 14, opened to underwhelming reviews.

Magudam also stars Dushara Vijayan and Anjali in prominent roles. The film features Vishal donning three different avatars with distinct personalities and how they clash together when a greater evil in the name of Linga strikes them. One plays an ordinary medical representative while the other works at a shipping harbour in Visakhapatnam. Then there's the dreaded Linga, who brings to the screen several shades of the actor whom audiences had seen in Mark Antony.

The actor had stepped into direct Magudam last year after creative differences with Ravi Arasu, who was initially in charge of helming the project. Ravi Arasu is now credited with the story for the movie. Anjali and Dushara Vijayan play the female leads. Jayaprakash, John Vijay, Ajay, Vamsi Krishna, Abu Salim, Arjai, Vj Jhansi, Padam Kumar, Sabhumon and others star in supporting roles.

Pon Parthiban has written the dialogues for the film, along with Anandh Kumaresan writing the dialogues in Tamil and Rajesh A Moorthy writing the dialogues in Telugu. The crew of the film includes NB Srikanth as the editor and G Durairaj as the art director. Late director-producer RB Choudary's Super Good Films banner is backing the film.

An excerpt from CE's review of the film reads, "Except for Vishal, all the characters, especially Dushara Vijaya, were criminally underutilised. In the first half's midpoint, the antagonists do not come across as worth fearing. Perhaps this could also be attributed to the scene that re-introduces Linga. In pursuit of deriving mass moments in the scene, it runs counter to the purpose of dishing out powerful and dreaded antagonists."

Magudam will be available to stream on Prime Video from September 11.
