We had previously reported about Netflix announcing the second season of their series The Royals, which starred Ishaan Khatter in the lead. While it was shared that Season 2 wouldn’t have Bhumi Pednekar reprising her role, some recent reports are hinting at other major changes in the primary crew.
According to a report by Variety India, director Mitakshara Kumar, who had replaced Jasmeet K Reen a few weeks ago, has now been replaced as well. Instead, Tanuj Chopra has been asked to step in and direct it. Tanuj, who is a US-based Indian filmmaker, has previously directed episodes for Seasons 2 and 3 of the Netflix series Delhi Crime.
The shoot, which was earlier being done in Jaisalmer, has meanwhile now shifted to Mumbai schedule. Rangita Nandy is onboard as the series producer.
Meanwhile, Bhumi’s exit had earlier paved way for Miss India World Sini Shetty and actor Gurfateh Pirzada who had joined the series cast. More detailed about the ensemble cast for season 2 are yet to be officially announced.
While Season 1 followed the lives of Prince Aviraaj Singh (Ishaan Khatter), a young prince, and Sophia Kanmani Shekhar (Bhumi Pednekar), an ambitious entrepreneur who work towards making their business plan of turning Aviraaj’s struggling palace into a luxury homestay while dealing with their rocky romance, the new season will reportedly feature Ishaan’s character in a love triangle with the roles played by Sini and Gurfateh. Gurfateh was recently seen in Lust Stories 3.
In our review for season 1 of The Royals, we had noted, “Each episode here comes up with an event that makes the characters don designer outfits. There’s a ball party, a grand auction and much more. Not to mention a rugged Ishaan who is made to go shirtless in almost all the episodes. But there’s just nothing to salvage the perpetual dullness.”
