We had previously reported about Netflix announcing the release date of its much-delayed crime series Akka, which stars Keerthy Suresh and Radhika Apte in the lead cast. On saturday, the streamer unveiled the official trailer of the series.

The new Akka trailer primarily focuses on establishing the might of its titular protagonist (played by Keerthy Suresh), who rules the local crime scene with an iron fist, aided by her massive army of women soldiers. This very snappily cut trailer revolves around Akka and her power, before concluding with a potential rival (Radhika Apte), who promises to bring a brutal end to Akka’s empire. Part of the official synopsis reads, “Set in the 1980s matriarchal society in a fictional city, Akka is the tale of gangster queens whose matriarchal rule is challenged when an outsider brings an unseen threat, spiralling the all-powerful sisterhood into a chaos storm of violence and survival.”

Written and directed by debutant filmmaker Dharmaraj Shetty, Akka also has Aditya Chopra onboard as one of the executive producers, besides Yogendra Mogre and Akshaye Widhani. Hussain Dalal and Abbas Dalal are credited for dialogues. John Stewart Eduri has composed music. The supporting cast includes Tanvi Azmi and Kiran Karmarkar.

In the technical team, Akka has Sankyukta Kaza and Saheeb Bagchi as editors, Laxmi Keluskar as the production designer, and Sunil Rodrigues as the action director. Sheetal Iqbal Sharma is the costume designer.

This is the first time Radhika and Keerthy will be seen sharing screen.  Radhika Apte was recently seen in Lust Stories 3.

Meanwhile, Keerthy Suresh made an appearance in the much-acclaimed Karthik Subbaraj film Dorothy, which released in September. Akka marks her second Hindi project after Varun Dhawan starrer Baby John (2024).
