Yogi Babu's latest comedy drama Kenatha Kanom, directed by late filmmaker Suresh Sangaiah, is all set to hit OTT platform JioHotstar soon, three months after it hit theatres.

A satire and a social commentary on drought, water scarcity, governance and identity of rural Tamil Nadu, Kenatha Kanom revolves around a drought-stricken village whose residents go to great lengths to solve this issue. When they seek the help of a water diviner and find the perfect spot right outside the village priest Manivasagam’s (Yogi Babu) house and start digging, they are shocked to find fossilised dinosaur bones. The rest of the story revolves around the archaeological department taking over the village and how the residents fight back.

Upon release in theatres on March 13, the film was met with mixed reviews from audiences and critics.

An excerpt from our CE review of the film read, "Kenatha Kanom has a wonderfully quirky premise, potent with discussions around bureaucratic failure, big picture versus immediate needs, common man versus the government, and more. But what the film does instead is resort to a sappy romanticisation of the “old ways”. Which wouldn’t have been a problem except that the arguments it relies on to make its case stem from misguided philosophies and an abject misunderstanding of science."

The extended cast of Kenatha Kanom comprises Lovelyn Chandrasekhar, Ramakrishnan, Raichel Rabecca, George Mariyam, Rajendran, Kavitha Barathi, Kalaipandiyan, and Hello Kandasamy, among others.

The film is backed by R Ramesh Babu and Jegan Baskaran under the RB Talkies and Box Office Studio banners. On the technical front, it has music by Nivas K Prasanna, camera work by V Thiyagarajan and editing by R Ramar.

Kenatha Kanom is set to premiere on JioHotstar from June 15.
