On Wednesday, ZEE5 announced its next Hindi original series Shabad — Reet aur Riwaaz, that will soon have its premiere on the streamer. The series stars Suvinder Vicky and Mihir Ahuja in the lead cast.
Planned as a six-part series, set against the culturally rooted landscape of Punjab, Shabad — Reet aur Riwaaz promises to be a poignant father–son drama. It follows Ghuppi (Mihir), a stammering teenager whose passion for football stands in stark contrast to the life envisioned for him by his father (Suvinder), a renowned Ragi singer determined to see his son carry forward the family’s sacred musical legacy.
Set within a close-knit household bound by faith, tradition, and inherited expectations, the series promises to weaves together a father’s devotion to legacy and a son’s longing for self-expression, also exploring the themes of generational conflict, exploring identity, fear, and courage. Speaking about the show, ZEE5 Business Head Kaveri Das stated, “The series reflects the direction we are consciously shaping for ZEE5’s Hindi originals — rooted, slice-of-life family dramas that are deeply human, authentic, and widely relatable. India has a strong cultural legacy of family-first values and deep respect for elders, and this show sensitively examines the emotional tensions that arise when these traditions intersect with a new generation’s desire to choose its own path.”
Producer Mayank Yadav said, “ With Shabad – Reet Aur Riwaaz, we wanted to tell a story that feels lived-in and honest. The world of Ragi singing, the pressures of legacy, and a young boy’s silent rebellion through sport felt like a powerful metaphor for so many families today. ”
The supporting cast includes Mahi Raj and Taranjit Kaur. Rusk Media has produced the series, while Ameet Guptha helms direction. Ameet is known for directing Bakaiti, which too premiered on ZEE5. The makers are yet to announce a premiere date for the series.
Suvinder Vicky is largely known for his performance in the acclaimed Netflix series Kohrra. Meanwhile, Mihir Ahuja has worked in films like The Archies, Vijay 69 and Super 30.
