Plankton: The Movie trailer: Plankton tries to save the world

The film features the voice talents of Lawrence as Plankton, joined by the regular SpongeBob cast

Netflix unveiled the trailer for the upcoming animated musical comedy, Plankton: The Movie, on Tuesday. Based on the television series SpongeBob SquarePants, created by Stephen Hillenburg, the film is helmed by Dave Needham and written by Kaz, Chris Viscardi, and Mr. Lawrence, based on a story by Lawrence.

The official description of the upcoming film reads, "SpongeBob SquarePants’ tiniest frenemy, Sheldon J. Plankton, is finally getting his close-up. When Plankton’s latest evil scheme is thwarted, Bikini Bottom and the surface world become threatened by an unexpected danger. Now, before Plankton can take over the world, he’s going to have to save it."

Plankton: The Movie features the voice talents of Lawrence as Plankton, joined by the regular SpongeBob cast. In this film, Plankton's ambitions are foiled when his computer wife Karen seizes control. This movie is the second in a series of spin-off films focused on SpongeBob characters, following the first installment released in 2024.

Plankton: The Movie will officially release on Netflix on March 7, 2025.
