HBO dropped the first official trailer for Dune: Prophecy that carries the release date of the series, which is set 10,000 years before the events of Dune. The first season of the show, consisting of six episodes, premieres on November 17 on Max.
Previously titled Dune: The Sisterhood, the Dune prequel series stars Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Tabu, Camilla Beeput, Sarah Lam, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Mark Strong, Jade Anouka, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, and Chris Mason.
The series is based on the novel Sisterhood of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson. As per an official plotline, it “follows the Harkonnen Sisters (Watson, Williams) as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit.”
Its trailer showcases the early phase of the Bene Gesserit as well as hints at political intrigue and battles for power in space.
Diane Ademu-John, who created and executive produced the series, stepped down as co-showrunner in 2022. Alison Schapker took over as its sole showrunner before serving as an executive producer. Johan Renck directs the first episode and serves as an executive producer.
Denis Villeneuve, along with many others, holds executive producer credits. The others include Jon Spaihts, Scott Z Burns, Matthew King, John Cameron, Cait Collins, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, Kim Herbert (representing the Frank Herbert estate), and Kevin J Anderson (co-producer). Max and Legendary TV produced it.
