The sequel to Meg (2018), Meg 2: The Trench will premiere on Jio Cinema on January 3, 2024. The film hit theatres on August 6 and opened to mixed reviews. Jason Statham was seen reprising his role as Jonas Taylor, a rescue diver who has deadly encounters with prehistoric creatures, due to destiny, in the sequel as well.
The sequel hit theatres 5 years after the first film. The sequel has drawn its ideas from Steve Alten's 1999 novel The Trench. Meg 2 is set in the aftermath of learning about the Megalodon's survival during the events of the first story.
Jonas Taylor is now entirely focused on studying the dinosaur in that book. Jonas never could have imagined that he would also encounter a Kronosaurus, a short-necked dinosaur with the ability to survive in the water. It is unclear what other historical monsters might appear in the series or whether Taylor will have the means necessary to protect everyone from them.
Sienna Guillory, Cliff Curtis, and Shuya Sophia also starred along with Jason Statham in Meg 2: The Trench. The film is helmed by Ben Wheatley and backed by Warner Bros.
