Director Karthik Subbaraj is awaiting the release of his next film Dorothy. With music by Ilaiyaraaja, the film stars Keerthy Suresh, Rishikanth, and Sananth in the lead roles. As part of promotions for his film, Karthik visited Kerala and spoke to press and media members about his career. One reporter from The Cue Studio asked the filmmaker about whether he plans to direct a film in Malayalam.

In response, he said, "I will definitely do a film in Malayalam." The director added that his film could be based on a person he met in Fort Kochi, a place he said he loves. "I have a general plan to do a film based on that character in Malayalam. Looking forward to it," Karthik Subbaraj added.

Karthik has been having a cult following in Kerala as well ever since his 2012 film Pizza, which marked his directorial debut and proved a breakthrough for actor Vijay Sethupathi. The audience in Kerala also appreciates many of his films, including Jigarthanda, Jigarthanda Double X, Iraivi, and the Rajinikanth starrer Petta. The audience in the state hold him in high regard as a filmmaker with a distinctive approach.

His two biggest hits at the Kerala box office are Petta and Retro, starring Suriya. Jigarthanda Double X, in particular, bagged the highest collection for the film in Kerala across India outside of the Tamil Nadu box office.

When it comes to Dorothy, there is another factor that connects the film to Kerala: Keerthy Suresh. The upcoming film has been garnering much appreciation ever since its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. It is set for a September 25 release in theatres worldwide.
