Actor Sananth is all set to star in Dorothy, in his first time leading the cast of a Karthik Subbaraj film. But this is not the first time the actor and direct has collaborated. Sananth has worked on Karthik Subbaraj films like Mercury (2018), Petta (2019), Mahaan (2022), and Jigarthanda DoubleX (2023).

In an interview with CE, when asked if continuously collaborating with Karthik Subbaraj was the reason behind Sananth not exploring multiple opportunities, the actor said, "No, I continued to collaborate with Karthik anna because a lot of those opportunities did not pan out. But that doesn't mean I play the same role in each of his films. Plus in this 15-year journey there are a lot of reasons why projects didn't take off, but I did not take that as a criticism."

He added, "I will still work with him after Dorothy. So, that criticism doesn't affect me. I believe that I have done justice to all of those characters. I also believe that he gives a role because of my abilities, and not because he knows me."

Dorothy recently had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, and is set to open in theatres on September 25. Keerthy Suresh, Rishikanth, Ramachandran Durairaj, Muthukumar, Gajaraj, and Jeeva Subramaniam also star. Ilaiyaraaja has composed music for Dorothy, in his 1540th film credit.
