Priyadarshan’s 1994 classic Thenmavin Kombathu, headlined by Mohanlal and Shobana, is set to return to theatres on October 1. The release date has been announced by Matinee Now, the company in charge of the restoration. After over three decades, the film will arrive on the big screen in an upgraded 4K Dolby Atmos format.

Thenmavin Kombathu, an iconic comedy entertainer, won two National Film Awards — Best Cinematography for KV Anand and Best Production Design for Sabu Cyril — and five Kerala State Film Awards, including Best Film with Popular Appeal and Aesthetic Value.

Set in a fictional rural backdrop, Thenmavin Kombathu tells the story of Sreekrishnan and Manikyan, whose friendship is tested when they both fall in love with the same woman, Karthumbi. Nedumudi Venu plays Sreekrishnan, while Mohanlal and Shobana appear as the lead pair, Manikyan and Karthumbi. The film also has Priyadarshinan’s regulars like Sreenivasan, Pappu, Sukumari, Kaviyoor Ponnamma and KPAC Lalitha in memorable roles.

Thenmavin Kombathu was also remade in multiple languages, with Rajinikanth headlining the loosely inspired Tamil version, Muthu.
