There has been some frustration from Mohanlal fans over the lack of screen time for their superstar in Jailer 2, featuring Rajinikanth in the lead role. The outrage intensified after Mohanlal's stylist and costume designer expressed his displeasure about the actor's scenes being cut from the big-budget film. Subsequently, the superstar's fans joined in, expressing their anger and even demanding a public apology from director Nelson and producer Sun Pictures. Meanwhile, there has also been some speculation among fans about whether Mohanlal even appeared in some portions of the film as Mathew.
Amidst all the outrage and frustration, mimicry artist Joby Kodakara has revealed that he served as a dupe for Mohanlal in the Jailer sequel. Joby expressed his happiness about being a part of the film while sharing a photograph where he can be seen clad in a shirt resembling what Mohanlal wears in the film.
Subsequently, amidst growing outrage from fans, the artist deleted the Jailer 2 posts. However, social media already has Joby's photographs from the film's set, including those with SJ Suryah and Jackie Shroff.
Joby also said that he finds himself fortunate enough to see Rajinikanth up close, let alone feature in a film with a global superstar such as him. A mimicry artist, who has been doing stage shows as a dupe for actors for 20 years now, Joby also revealed that he felt delighted when the makers of the film approached him to serve as a stand-in for the superstar.
According to netizens, the dupe scene comes at the end of the film, where the 'Mohanlal' character can be seen driving a car at a breakneck speed. Not all audience members noticed the difference after the early screenings partly thanks to the striking resemblance Joby has to the superstar.
