It has been little over a month since the release of I'm Game, starring Dulquer Salmaan and directed by Nahas Hidhayath. The highly anticipated film, also produced by Dulquer under his banner Wayfarer Films, did not perform as well as expected at the box office. According to data from the box office tracker Sacnilk, it only earned around 48 crore from theatres worldwide. On Wednesday, Dulquer opened up about the box office performance of the film in an interaction with X users.

Users expressed their disappointment over the quality of the film, with one of them calling it "valare shokam" and encouraging Dulquer to do a far better film next. In his response, Dulquer said, "It’s sweet that you care. But there are many things that happen that you are not aware of. That sometimes can be out of the control of the best intended production house also. Anyway we will only keep striving to do our best."

Meanwhile, another user argued that in his recent thread on I'm Game he opined that Wayfarer Films "messed up the project". Dulquer also responded to the user, saying, "I’m not saying you were wrong in your analysis. You were mostly right. And trust me we are aware of all of it. But there are just times when from our end we can do everything right. But outside factors or other circumstances can turn those upside down."

Dulquer Salmaan also underscored the sometimes-futile exercise of analysing a film in hindsight. "It’s easy to analyse an end product or result. But it takes 2-300 people to make a film. It’s never easy. Never simple. And never something you can apply formulae or academics to."

Noting that "no production house or actor in world cinema intends to make mistakes or a bad film," Dulquer added that some decisions go wrong in cinema, just like in life, and suggested that the chances of this might be more with a large production team. "Imagine an entity that operates with an internal team and multiple external teams. I’ll always stand by my team and if you want to blame someone you can blame me," Dulquer signed off.
