Nazriya Nazim has made a strong comeback to Tamil cinema after a gap of 12 years with a role in Scene, directed by Aavesham filmmaker Jithu Madhavan and co-starring Suriya. Ever since its release on Friday, fans have been embracing the actor's performance in the film and appreciating director Jithu Madhavan for using her in a unique way. Several reels and shorts are trending on social media with clips of Nazriya's portions in Scene from theatres. Some of these videos carry the caption, "The OG Mamitha is back," referring to the heartthrob of Malayalam cinema before Mamitha Baiju stole the limelight with films such as Premalu and Bethlehem Kudumba Unit.
Audiences also appreciate Suriya and Nazriya's combination sequences in Scene. The film stars Nazriya Nazim as Suriya's pair in an investigation.
The makers have already released glimpses of the actor's fight sequence in the film. Jithu has also used the role in a distinctive way, subverting gender-related expectations from a female actor in Indian cinema.
Scene marks the actor's fifth release this decade, after titles such as Trance with husband Fahadh Faasil, Maniyarayile Ashokan (where she has a cameo), Ante Sundaraniki with Nani, and Sookshmadarshini with Basil Joseph.
In Tamil, she last appeared in 2014's Thirumanam Enum Nikkah, opposite Jai. She took a four-year break after that and returned to cinema with a role in Koode, directed by her Bangalore Days filmmaker Anjali Menon and co-starring Prithviraj Sukumaran. Fans will not have to wait too long to see their favourite star on the big screen once again. Up next, the actor will be seen in Gracias El Clasico, co-starring Tovino Thomas and directed by Muhsin Parari. Production on the film, named after the iconic clash between Barcelona Football Club and Real Madrid in the Spanish football league La Liga, has been wrapped.
