Director Jeethu Joseph's film Drishyam 3 is set to hit theatres worldwide on May 21, which marks Mohanlal's birthday. Despite Jeethu's persistent requests not to expect a thriller with major twists and turns, the expectations from the third part in the Drishyam franchise have skyrocketed following the recent release of its trailer. Advance bookings have opened for the film, which is scheduled to have its first show in the United States of America.
According to industry sources, the film has already grossed about 24 crore through pre-sales alone, as quoted by the industry tracker Sacnilk. Of this, reports say, around 11 crore comes from India. Trade analysts expect that the bookings will continue to drive up the Drishyam 3 pre-sales figures.
Reportedly, the numbers from advance reservations for the film are excellent in markets such as North America, Australia, Gulf countries, the UK, and the USA. Reports indicate that the pre-sales are likely to touch 30 crore before the film hits theatres tomorrow. Trade analysts predict that the film will have the highest opening for a Mohanlal starrer after L2: Empuraan. Reportedly, the Lucifer sequel holds the distinction of being the highest-grossing Mohanlal film in terms of the opening collection and the final tally.
Besides Mohanlal, Drishyam 3 stars Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Siddique, Asha Sharath, and Murali Gopy, among others. The film follows the events of the second part, exploring Georgekutty's fears and insecurities after the cover-up of the Varun murder. The makers describe the film as "the gripping saga of truth, deception, and consequences."
The film is produced by Antony Perumbavoor of Aashirvad Cinemas, as well as presented by Dr. Jayantilal Gada of Pen Studios and Panorama Studios.
