After skipping its earlier announced release dates of May 1 and June 12, the makers of Joju George-starrer Varavu have finally confirmed July 16 as the release date. Shaji Kailas is directing the film, scripted by AK Sajan. The two have previously collaborated on films such as Chinthamani Kolacase, Red Chillies and Dhrona 2010.

Varavu, set in the high ranges, follows Polachan, also known as Poly (Joju), a wealthy planter who returns to his native land after being released from prison to confront long-standing rivalries and settle unfinished business. The film also stars Vani Viswanath, Murali Gopy, Arjun Ashokan, Saniya Iyappan, Vincy Aloshious, Sukanya, Baburaj, Deepak Parambol, Azees Nedumangad, Abhimanyu Thilakan, and Bobby Kurian, among others.

Produced by Naisy Reji under the banner of Olga Productions, Varavu has cinematography by S Saravanan, editing by Shameer Muhammed and music by Sam CS. Billed as an action-heavy entertainer, it has choreography by Stunt Silva, Kalai Kingson, Phoenix Prabu, Rajashekar Master, Thavasi Raj, Mafia Sasi, and Jackie Johnson.

Joju George is currently working on his second directorial Paripadi, produced by Venu Kunnappilly's Kavya Film Company. Joju has scripted the film, in addition to directing and playing the lead role. On the technical front, the actor-turned-filmmaker has assembled a formidable team, which includes Tamil composer Yuvan Shankar Raja, making his Malayalam debut, ace cinematographer Rajeev Ravi, and editor Manu Antony. Interestingly, Manu is the director of Aja Sundari, Joju's upcoming release as a lead actor.
