Director Abhinav Sunder Nayak's second film, Mollywood Times, has a cameo appearance from Basil Joseph that was little known, until the film's release. In an Instagram Live session with his co-stars, Naslen, Vineeth Sreenivasan, and Sangeeth Prathap, Basil revealed that Abhinav told him not to tell anyone else about his cameo. The actor quipped that even he realised that he had a cameo role in the film only while watching it in the theatre.
Basil Joseph jokingly added that he kept his promise to Abhinav about the brief appearance in the film, because he was scared of what the director would do to him otherwise. The actor-director quipped that Abhinav even kept him at gunpoint and forced him to edit out scenes from his film, Godha. "He is a dangerous guy," Basil joked about his Mollywood Times director.
Around the time Basil made the jokes, Vineeth said that he had a conversation with the other cast members, Prasanth Alexander and Sangeeth, at a theatre where they were attending a screening for the film. "Each of us knew what we played in the film, but none of us understood the story," Vineeth joked.
For the unversed, Mollywood Times follows a youngster (Naslen) who wants to be the maker of the greatest horror films in Malayalam cinema. However, his journey to the destination is made difficult by corruption and internal politics in the film industry. Soon, he starts to question whether it makes sense to forgo ethics and make choices or stick to his guns and achieve his goals while sticking to principles of right and wrong. The film is billed as "a hate letter to cinema," something which it lives up to.
