Uyir, headlined by Roshan Mathew, is set to begin streaming on JioHotstar from August 4, the makers announced on Thursday. Directed by M Padmakumar, the police procedural was released in theatres on June 26 and opened to mixed reviews.

Based on real-life incidents from the career of a police officer, Uyir follows probationary sub-inspector Ajeeb Rahman (Roshan), who is posted at the Dharmadam Police Station in Kannur. While investigating the discovery of a woman's decomposed body in an abandoned well, Ajeeb is drawn into a complex case that uncovers hidden truths through a series of interconnected events.

The film also stars Baiju Santhosh, Vinod Sagar, Shruthy Menon, Saiyami Kher, Vineeth Thattil, Divya M Nair, Santhosh Thrivikraman, Shaju Sreedhar, Shrikant Murali, Athulya Chandra and Mahesh Shetty. The story is by real-life cop Anshad, with the screenplay co-written by another police officer Shaji Marad and singer Nikhil K Menon. Shaji's previous writing credits include Ela Veezha Poonchira and Paathirathri.

The technical crew of Uyir comprises cinematographer Ajay David Kachappilly, editor Renjan Abraham and composer Manikandan Ayyappa. The film is produced by Santhosh Thrivikraman under the banner of Vow Cinemas.

An excerpt from the CE review of the film reads, "The biggest thing holding Uyir back is that it rarely catches you off guard. Most of its reveals are telegraphed well in advance, and the screenplay keeps delaying them as if they are still meant to surprise. By the end, you're left appreciating the sincerity of the performances and the emotional ending more than the mystery itself."
