There was much online discourse as to why Jayaram failed to attend Srinivasan's funeral function, even as many well-known celebrities, from Malayalam cinema and beyond, took part in it. After the legendary actor-screenwriter's passing, Jayaram explained that he could not attend the function because of his filming commitment in Chennai. However, netizens criticised the actor for his actions, especially considering the fact that he has been part of many films with Sreenivasan.
Kalidas Jayaram recently expressed his support for his actor father in a conversation regarding Srinivasan's passing. Speaking to Galatta Plus, Kalidas said that only Jayaram knows what his relationship with Srinivasan was like and that even he was not aware of why his father could not take part in the function.
"I feel like there is so much hatred circulating around social media and other platforms. Internet users spread hate-filled comments just for the sake of it through their anonymous accounts," Kalidas shared. "They know what their equation is; they do not have to explain it to anyone," the actor added about his father's relationship with Sreenivasan.
Kalidas also wondered whether it would have been good or bad for Jayaram to start his career at a time when there was no social media. Jayaram interjected the conversation, saying that there are good and bad sides to social networking platforms. "There are 100 per cent good things about it; if you look at one side, there might be bad things too," Jayaram said.
On the film front, Jayaram and Kalidas are reuniting after a long time for a film titled Ashakal Aayiram. Directed by G Prajith of Oru Vadakkan Selfie fame, the film is slated for a February 06 release in theatres.
