On Thursday, Mammootty announced through social media that the pooja ceremony and title reveal of his upcoming film with Adoor Gopalakrishnan will be held today at 10:30 am. The yet-to-be-titled project marks the auteur’s return to direction after a long gap and reunites him with the veteran actor more than three decades after their last collaboration, Vidheyan. The duo had earlier worked together on Anantaram and Mathilukal, all of which are regarded as landmarks in Malayalam cinema.

The upcoming film will be backed by Mammootty’s home banner Mammootty Kampany, making it the company’s eighth production venture. It follows the commercial success of Kalamkaval, in which Mammootty played a cold-blooded serial killer opposite Vinayakan.

While official details regarding the cast and crew of the new film are yet to be announced, unconfirmed reports suggest that Nayanthara may be considered for the female lead. It is also being reported that Shehnad Jalal, who shot the Mammootty-starrer Bramayugam, will be wielding the camera, while editor Praveen Prabhakaran will handle the cuts. Further details are expected to be revealed at the formal launch.

Mammootty was last seen in a pivotal cameo in Adhvaith Nayar's Chatha Pacha: The Ring of Rowdies, while Adoor's last directorial was the Dileep-Kavya Madhavan starrer Pinneyum.
