Veteran Malayalam filmmaker Vinayan on Monday hinted at an upcoming project through a social media post, teasing a fantasy film that has been in development for several years. “An announcement regarding a fantasy subject that has been developed over several years will be made within a week,” he wrote, adding that “the film will be produced as a hybrid project.”

Expressing confidence in his audience, the filmmaker further said, “I hope that audiences, who have always embraced my unconventional concepts, will also bless this film, which makes maximum use of new-age technology.”

Vinayan has directed over 30 Malayalam films across a wide range of genres. He is best known for helming films such as Vasanthiyum Lakshmiyum Pinne Njaanum, Akasha Ganga, Karumadikkuttan, Oomappenninu Uriyadappayyan, Dada Sahib, Vellinakshatram, Rakshasa Rajavu, Kalyana Sougandhikam and Albhuthadweep, among others.

His last directorial venture was the 2022 period drama Pathonpatham Noottandu, headlined by Siju Wilson. Earlier, in 2023, it was reported that Vinayan and Marco actor Unni Mukundan were joining hands for the second instalment of the filmmaker’s hit fantasy drama Albhuthadweep, with Malikappuram-fame Abhilash Pillai scripting the film, but there have been no updates about the project ever since.
