Jayasurya's cult character Shaji Pappan is gearing up to storm to the screens, as the makers of Aadu 3 have wrapped production on the film. The makers, including director Midhun Manuel Thomas, announced the news earlier today. As reported earlier, it is set for a March 19 release in theatres. The film comes nine years after the release of Aadu 2, also directed by Midhun and starring Jayasurya. Besides Jayasurya, the returning cast for the film includes Vinayakan, Saiju Kurup, Vijay Babu, Indrans, Srinda, Aju Varghese, Sunny Wayne, Sudhy Kopa, Bijukuttan, and Bhagath Manuel.

Vijay Babu, known for his role as SI Sarbath Shameer/ Dabangg Shameer in the franchise, is producing the film through his Friday Film House banner alongside Kavya Films of Venu Kunnappilly.

The first part, 2015's Aadu, failed at the box office upon its release, but the film would go on to become a cult favourite among the masses following its DVD release. Its eventual popularity benefited the second part as well, playing a part in making it a massive hit at the box office in 2017. The franchise is known for its over-the-top comedy, something which critics often classify as 'inspired lunacy', featuring one gag after another. However, earlier, the makers of Aadu 3 revealed that it would have fantasy elements, going away from the franchise's traditions.

The film's technical team includes cinematographer Akhil George, composer Shaan Rahman, and editor Lijo Paul. Besides the third film in the Aadu franchise, Jayasurya also has Kathanar – The Wild Sorcerer, which is expected to hit theatres later this year. Also starring Anushka Shetty, the film produced by Sree Gokulam Movies is regarded as one of Malayalam cinema's costliest projects so far.
