Director Akhil Sathyan expressed his admiration for Gautham Vasudev Menon's 2003 cop drama Kaakha Kaakha, starring Suriya in the lead role. Speaking to Cineulagam in a recent roundtable discussion, the Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakkum and Sarvam Maya director said that some of his favourite scenes in the film, starring Nivin Pauly and Riya Shibu, have drawn the appropriate reaction from the audience in the theatre. The filmmaker compared some of the response he received for Sarvam Maya to the "acid scene" in Kaakha Kaakha. The scene he referred to shows Suriya's character saving a school girl from a youngster who pours water onto her after claiming that it is acid. Suriya's cop character comes into the frame, wipes the water off his face and puts the guy who threw it at gunpoint.

Akhil also recalled an incident where he and his director brother Anoop Sathyan, known for Varane Avashyamund, went to watch Kaakha Kaakha at "a bad theatre" after their college hours. Reminiscing about it, the filmmaker quipped, "We went cycling one day in a random village and happened to notice this bad theatre that had Kaakha Kaakha playing there. We thought 'let us go inside' and noticed that they had fans (not air conditioners) there."

By recalling such a minute scene from the Suriya-Jyotika starrer, Akhil has shown that he is a massive admirer of the film. Meanwhile, Sarvam Maya continues its successful run in theatres.
